Method

How to make the star bread wreath

Put the flour in a bowl, dissolve the yeast in the water, then pour it into the center of the flour.

Start kneading, then add salt and lard.

Continue to knead until you have a homogeneous dough.

Set aside a piece of dough of about 100 g, and form a ball with the remaining dough.
Let both loaves rest, covered with a clean cloth, for about 3 hours or until doubled.

Flatten the large dough a little, make a hole in the center with your fingers and spread it gently with your hands until it forms a sort of donut.

Place it on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Then, with the help of a wooden stick (I used Chinese chopsticks, but you can also use the handle of a wooden spoon) trace the 5 points of the star on the donut.

Take the small piece of dough set aside, knead it until you get a long and thin cord and place it on the grooves traced with the stick.

Let it rise for about 1 hour or until the bread has doubled in volume.

Brush with a little lard and decorate as desired with seeds or dried fruit: I used sesame and poppy seeds, and chopped pistachios.

Bake the crown of bread in a convection oven preheated to 220 ° C: as soon as it is baked, lower the temperature to 200 ° C and bake for about 25-30 minutes.

Let it cool, then decorate as you like to use it as a centerpiece for your Christmas table.
